Kota Kinabalu: Sabah is stepping up data-driven policymaking, with Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun emphasising the role of research in shaping effective economic strategies during a meeting with the Sabah Institute for Development Studies (IDS) at his office here.
The meeting focused on research findings and policy proposals presented by IDS Sabah aimed at strengthening more structured and high-impact development planning.

Masidi emphasised that the importance of data and research in formulating effective policies to ensure the continued well-being of the people.
He said such an approach is key to ensuring development strategies remain responsive and impactful across sectors.
Masidi also highlighted the importance of strengthening Sabah’s local products as a key driver of the State economy, including improving quality, branding and marketability at both domestic and international levels.
“Local products have great potential to be highlighted and must be given continuous support to enable them to compete in wider markets,” he said.

He expressed hope that strategic collaboration between the State Government and Sabah IDS would continue to be enhanced to ensure policies formulated benefit the people of Sabah as a whole.
The meeting also saw the presentation of a proposal titled ‘Implementation Mechanism, New Revenue Sources’ by IDS Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ramzah Dambul, followed by a discussion and exchange of views.
Also present was Sabah IDS Chief Research Officer Victor Sikain and a delegation of IDS staff.
