Kota Kinabalu: Upgrade works on the Sabah Heart Centre at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II are progressing as planned, with several phases currently underway to create a more advanced, dedicated cardiac facility.
State Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Majungki confirmed the development during a working visit to the hospital on Tuesday, saying the existing hospital space was being enhanced ahead of the centre’s full upgrade.
“The existing space is being enhanced to create a dedicated section for a more advanced Sabah Heart Centre. Physically, the full upgrade has not yet entered that phase, but several phases are planned and are currently underway,” she said.
The visit is the second in a planned series of hospital tours across the State, following an earlier stop at Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.
Julita said she intends to cover all 24 government hospitals in Sabah alongside the State Health Department and her Ministry’s team.
Beyond the Heart Centre, Julita flagged parking as an operational issue requiring urgent attention.
“This is important not only for patients but also for doctors, nurses and other staff here,” she said, adding that the matter would be taken up with both the Federal Ministry of Health and the State Government.
She said the on-the-ground visits were essential for identifying challenges not always visible through administrative channels.
“Through this visit, we can identify real priorities on the ground and plan follow-up actions more closely,” Julita said.
