TANJUNG ARU: Founder and Adviser to the Society of Hope Sabah, Datuk Seri Christina Liew visited former Mother General of the Order of Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception (FSIC), Mother Cecilia Liew at the Stella Maris Convent (Senior Sisters), here, on Monday.
The 83-year-old retired Headmistress of St Francis Convent Primary School is bed bound for now after she had a bad fall and fractured her hip in October.
Liew spent time with Mother Cecilia, wishing her a speedy recovery and exchanging notes, while joining in the singing of hymns.
The founder took the opportunity to extend rice supplies, provisions and diaper packs to Stella Maris Convent under the Society’s social responsibility programme, apart from making a personal donation to the institution. On hand to receive Liew’s contributions was Local Animator (Resident-in-Charge) Mother Grace Deosing, also a former Mother General of FSIC.
“I thank Datuk Christina for her concern for my well-being and her generous contribution to Stella Maris Home,” said Mother Cecilia who prayed for the visitors.
Meanwhile, Liew, who founded the Society in 2007, said its community service started off with distributing food aid to flood victims in Paitan and underprivileged children in the interior.
“The Society has since evolved into a full-fledged organisation capable of addressing the educational needs of children from low-income families through its ‘JOM Balik Sekolah’ programme and Scholarship scheme,” she said in response to Mother Cecilia who wanted to know more about the Society.
In 2022, the Society earned a national record in the prestigious Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for its record distribution of 10,000 sets of stationery to children from the B40 communities in 80 primary schools and kindergartens in 20 districts throughout Sabah. Currently, it is led by Liew’s daughter Josephine Hadikusumo.
