Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan Supreme Council Member Chen Ket Chuin said one of the reasons for Sabah’s high cost of living is inefficiency in logistics and distribution.
He said there is need for the government to look into the cabotage and internal infrastructure factors.
“Although policies have been liberalised, the reliance on shipping routes and the ‘double handling’ of goods where items are often shipped to Port Klang before being redistributed to East Malaysia adds significant freight costs,” he said.
Beyond the ports, Sabah’s internal road networks and geographical terrain make the “last mile” delivery of goods to rural areas like Ranau or Telupid far more expensive than in the more connected Peninsular states.”
