KOTA KINABALU: Yayasan Petronas contributed 30 satellite tracking units to the Marine Research Foundation (MRF) to support marine biodiversity conservation in Sabah during the Petronas Sabah Iftar 2026 held here on Thursday.
The units were handed over by Yayasan Petronas Chief Executive Officer Nelly Shariah Francis to MRF Principal Programme Officer Liyana Izwin Khalid and witnessed by State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong and Petronas Senior Vice President of Malaysia Petroleum Management Datuk Bacho Pilong.
The devices will be deployed on 10 green turtles and 20 hawksbill turtles across key sites including Gulisan and Selingan Islands in Turtle Islands Park, Lankayan Island, Sipadan Island and Pom Pom Island to map critical seagrass and coral reef habitats.
In conjunction with Aidilfitri, Yayasan Petronas also extended festive contributions through its Uplifting Lives programme, benefiting 300 households across Sabah, with food packs distributed in Putatan, Papar and Tenom.
During the event, Safar presented food baskets to five selected recipients under the programme, witnessed by state officials, Petronas representatives, staff and media members.
