BEAUFORT: The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) has identified the use of vehicles modified with additional tanks as a tactic for diesel misappropriation activities here.
Beaufort KPDN enforcement chief Julie Julhani said the modifications allow offenders to store larger quantities of subsidised diesel beyond a vehicle’s original tank capacity, raising suspicion during refuelling.
She said the tactic was uncovered during an Ops Tiris 4.0 operation at a petrol station on Tuesday, where a vehicle fitted with an additional tank was found carrying a significant amount of diesel.
She said inspection revealed the vehicle had been modified to hold about 200 litres of diesel, with the vehicle, fuel and related documents seized for investigation, while the driver was briefly detained and later released on police bail, and enforcement action taken on the petrol pump nozzle with two police reports lodged.
She said the case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, with further investigations ongoing and enforcement under Ops Tiris 4.0 to be intensified, warning of strict action against those involved.
