Kota Kinabalu: Regenerative medicine represents one of the most exciting frontiers in modern science as it holds the promise of repairing and restoring damaged tissues and organs, while also having the potential to transform how diseases are prevented, managed and ultimately cured, said Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
The former Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment was the guest of honour at the Scientific Seminar on Regenerative Medicine with Exosomes organised by Biolive (M) Sdn Bhd at the Sabah Hakka Hall on Sunday night.
“This is not just about medical innovation — it is about giving people renewed hope and empowering communities to live longer, healthier and more meaningful lives,” she said while welcoming doctors from Taiwan and academic researchers from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) who presented papers at the seminar to share their knowledge, experiences and vision for the future of healthcare.
The speakers were Prof Dr Su Yung-Tsun, Director of the Taiwan Anti-aging Medical Association and Director of the Asia-Pacific Tumour & Chronic Diseases Nutrition Society; Dr Yang You-Chia, an ophthalmologist from Taiwan Nobel Eye Clinic and board-certified specialist with the Taiwan Society of Aesthetic Medicine; Assoc Prof Dr Daniel Law Jia Xian, Deputy Head of the Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre (UKMMC); and Assoc Prof Dr Angela Ng, Senior Lecturer from the Department of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at UKMMC.
Describing the seminar as a testament to the power of collaboration, Liew said that by bringing together leading scientists, researchers, healthcare professionals and entrepreneurs, the organisers were laying the foundation for breakthroughs that could shape the future of medicine not only in Malaysia but globally.
“In this regard, let us be bold in our vision, steadfast in our commitment and united in our efforts. Together, we can ensure that regenerative medicine fulfils its promise to transform healthcare and improve countless lives,” she added.
