TAWAU: Former Kalabakan MP Ma’mun Sulaiman pledged that Jalan Kuhara in the Kukusan constituency will be upgraded to a two-lane road if Warisan forms the state government.
Ma’mun, the Warisan Kukusan candidate, said the party is concerned about severe congestion along Jalan Kuhara, which serves 13 schools comprising nine primary and four secondary schools.
“We will push the government to upgrade Jalan Kuhara to two lanes, similar to Jalan Utara, which is currently under construction. We want safer and easier access for children going to school,” he said.
He told reporters during a walkabout with his campaign team at Chester Night Market on Friday night.
Ma’mun said his campaign has adopted a door-to-door approach, and over six days, infrastructure issues emerged as the top concern among Kukusan residents, who live across the eight-square-kilometre constituency.
He emphasised that his team had so far covered 50 per cent of Kukusan, which includes 22 housing estates and 15 villages, all part of Tawau town.
“Warisan has received a positive response from the people of Kukusan, who have long awaited Warisan to form the government.
“We hope this support will be reflected at the ballot box on 29 November,” he said.
Ma’mun also urged voters to choose leaders and a government that are transparent and bold in managing the state effectively.
“People of Sabah, this is the time for change.
“We cannot allow infrastructure crises to continue – roads, water and electricity.
“We have experienced power outages lasting over 20 hours. This has never happened anywhere else in the world, only in Sabah,” he said.
