Kota Kinabalu: Eight Sabah Warisan assemblymen submitted a memorandum to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) at its Jalan UMS office, Friday, demanding clarity over delays in the probe into the State’s mining scandal.
Spokesman Chin Tek Ming said the memorandum calls on MACC to be transparent about the status of investigations, including other individuals allegedly linked.
“MACC must provide a full explanation. Why have only some been charged when earlier reports indicated at least 15 individuals were implicated?” the Kapayan Assemblyman said.
He added that further action may be considered if there is no satisfactory progress.
“If this memorandum is ignored, we will look into several steps, including possible court action to compel investigations.
“It’s not easy, but public pressure matters and authorities have to listen to the rakyat,” he said.
He stressed Warisan’s stance that all corruption cases must be pursued without selective prosecution.
“We don’t care who gives or who takes. As long as it’s corruption,” he said when asked about Albert Tei who declined to admit giving bribes.
On another issue, he said the growing number of squatter settlements in Sabah requires a comprehensive solution backed by political will.
“This has been a long-standing issue. The Government must act, including relocation efforts. If the policy is sound and humane, we in the opposition can support it,” he said.
