LAHAD DATU: The construction of the Desa Kencana Camp, which is expected to be completed in 2028, will be able to provide housing for all members of the 13th Infantry Brigade of the Malaysian Army, according to the Commander of the 13th Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Datuk Jagjit Singh Indar Singh.
He said the camp is currently under construction and hoped it would be completed within the specified period.
“We hope that in 2028 it will be fully completed, members can move in and everyone will live in Desa Kencana, including their families and all officers and personnel serving at the 13th Infantry Brigade headquarters, Cenderawasih Camp,” he said, here, Tuesday.
On Nov 9, the media reported that the construction of the new military camp worth more than RM500 million in Felda Sahabat, Lahad Datu.
The camp will be able to provide housing for all members of the 13th Brigade who are facing the issue of expensive house rentals in Tawau and Lahad Datu.
Jagjit Singh said currently, an additional group rental of 120 units of quarters has been made for members.
Meanwhile, Jagjit Singh said the 13th Brigade area covering Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna, Tawau and Tongod is in a secure condition.
He said apart from maintaining security on land, they are also involved in Op Murni to rescue flood victims in the affected 13th Brigade area.
Earlier, Jagjit Singh and his wife Datin Kiranjeet Kaur Kulwant Singh were among the 273 early voters at the Gagah Berani Hall at the 13th Infantry Brigade headquarters, Cenderawasih Camp, Lahad Datu.
According to him, there are five military camps located in the five state constituencies involved under the auspices of the 13th Brigade, namely Tungku, Segama, Apas, Kukusan and Sebatik.
