TAWAU: Four men have been detained here to assist investigations into several election-related offences reported during the 17th Sabah State Election campaign.
District police chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the cases include allegations of slander against Apas candidate Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan of GRS and a criminal threat made against his wife, Datin Wahida Mardiana Norsalim.
He said police have so far received seven reports and opened five investigation papers under Sections 427, 500 and 379 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
Jasmin said the offences involve acts of mischief towards party flags and the circulation of inaccurate or slanderous statements on social media, with all cases to be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor once investigations are complete.
He said this after casting his early vote at the Tawau District Police Headquarters, adding that preparations for polling day are in place with 436 personnel deployed and early voter turnout at IPD Tawau reaching 86.66 per cent by 3pm.
