TAWAU: Election Commission (EC) chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun is confident that voter turnout this Saturday could reach 70 per cent, urging Sabahans to come out early to exercise their democratic responsibility.
He said uncertain weather remains a concern, and reminded voters to give themselves extra time when heading to polling centres across the state.
Ramlan assured that contingency measures are in place to ensure voting proceeds smoothly even in the event of floods, supported by district and state disaster management committees.
Earlier, he said 24,426 police, military and General Operations Force personnel and spouses were casting their early votes at 58 centres statewide, with turnout reaching 61.72 per cent by 11am.
He added that mobile phones will not be allowed at voting tables to prevent misuse, and revealed that 472 minor campaign-related complaints have been recorded so far by enforcement teams.
