Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government remains on standby while monitoring the current hot weather conditions, which are expected to persist over the coming months.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the State Government, through the State Natural Disaster Committee chaired by the State Secretary, is prepared while continuing to observe developments.
He also advised the public to take precautions during the ongoing hot spell, particularly those working outdoors or in the fields.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the hot weather is expected to continue until the start of the Southwest Monsoon in June due to drier atmospheric conditions and reduced rainfall.
Its Deputy Director-General (Operations) Ambun Dindang said the country is in the final phase of the Northeast Monsoon, with projections indicating drier-than-usual conditions despite occasional showers in some areas and below-normal rainfall recorded in parts of Sabah.
