TAWAU: Pakatan Harapan (DAP) candidate for Sri Tanjong, Philip Yap Wui Lip, unveiled a five-pillar development plan aimed at addressing Tawau’s long-standing infrastructure problems and improving local quality of life.

Yap said the plan reflects real issues faced by residents, including unstable electricity, water shortages and poor road conditions.

He aims to stabilise Tawau’s power supply by monitoring the Southern Grid construction, supporting an East Coast baseload power station, expanding renewable energy, and exploring battery energy storage systems.

He wants to ensure timely completion of the Tawau Dam and Cinta Mata 2 treatment plant while securing funds to replace ageing pipelines.

He envisions Tawau to become a destination, not just a transit point, by forming a Tourism Development Council, promoting eco- and agro-tourism and strengthening cultural events.

He pledges to push for better facilities at Hospital Tawau, improve street lighting, fix potholes, and upgrade drainage systems.

Yap stresses the need for smoother cooperation between state, federal and local agencies, including working closely with Tawau MP Lo Su Fui and holding regular community dialogues.

“A leader must listen to the pulse on the ground. Real service happens in the market, on the street, and in every encounter with the people,” he said.
