KENINGAU: Arum and Suzieyanti emerged as champions in the men’s and women’s categories of the Slingshot competition held in conjunction with the Keningau eRead Community Programme at Kampung Tudan Baru hall here.
The competition, jointly organised by KEMAS and the Federal Village Development and Security Committee (JPKKP), was participated by 20 men 20 women participants.
Second and third place in the men’s category were won by Ar-Din and Aril while the second place in the women’s category was won by Rita Udong and Hamida Suhaili in the third place.
Keningau Umno Division Chief, Datuk Nik Mohd Nadzri Nik Zawawi officiated and presented prizes to the winning participants in the competition.
In his speech, Nik Nadzri described that Slingshot has become popular sports in this district because its participation is open to all regardless age, either children, youth, men and women.
He is understood that in this competition it is also participated by men and women aged up to 70 years and above.
“Like other sports such as darts, carom, I believe that this slingshot can be used as a leisure activity for families because it does not require a special court, but can be played in the outdoor area of the house compound,” he said.
Apart from that, he said, this sport is also popular with young people because the way it is played is very simple and does not require excessive energy, instead just focus on the target.
Nik Nadzri hopes that any activity involving sports in festivals held in the village in future, slingshot should also needs to be included in order to provide an opportunity for parents and those who are older to participate.
