Kota Kinabalu: Team Sabah showcased their martial arts prowess at the 4th Edition Bintulu Amateur Muaythai Challenge (BAMC Vol. 4) held over the weekend at Paragon, Naim Street Mall, Bintulu, Sarawak, emerging as the overall champions with an impressive tally of 11 gold medals.
Their latest success was attributed to the performances from both junior and senior divisions.

The junior fighters, developed through the Sandakan Muaythai Association (PMS) Junior Development Programme, accounted for six of those gold medals through Muhammad Syuqhrieyyan Syah Abdullah – 45-48kg (15 years), Dheafathonah Syafiee Yusin – 30-31kg (11 years), Muhammad Amin Syah Andre Narul Haizad – 38-41kg (14 years), Muhammad Rayyan Raffiq Bahruddin – 51-54kg (15 years), Fadzli Abdul – 54-57kg (15 years) and Sharif Ryan Iskandar Omar – 48-51kg (15 years).
PMS president Mohd Ajman Ajmain said the success highlighted the effectiveness of their grassroots development programme.
“Our focus has always been on building strong fundamentals at junior level. Winning six gold medals at this championship confirms that the Sandakan junior development programme is producing results and contributing directly to Sabah’s overall success.”
On the senior side, the fighters competed under the Sabah Sukma 2026 programme clinched five gold medals in the open categories thorough Mohammad Khairul Ariffin – 67kg Open, Nur Iman Madley – 51kg Open, Kerry Dryan Jafili – 71kg Open, Sammy Yong Feng Yue – 45kg Open (female) and Mohd Izack Devid – 57kg Open.
Head Coach Cyrille Dhillon Tahing commented on the significance of BAMC Vol. 4 as a testing ground for their junior development structure and their preparation for Sukma 2026.
“The results show we are moving in the right direction, but more work must be done to raise consistency and competition readiness,” he said.
Meanwhile, DSHA Muayfit Club Tawau taking part in the competition under their own banner also stood out with three gold medals from Mohammad Faliq Herlis, Harith Dazzel Hari Irwan and Derylino Dedy in the junior division.
Sabah Muaythai Association president Hj Nazri Ab Razak, who was impressed with the overall performance of the athletes said the latest success reflected a well-structured pipeline of talent, catering to junior development and paving the way for the upcoming Sukma 2026.
“The strong showing at BAMC Vol.4 further cements Sabah’s reputation as one of Malaysia’s leading Muaythai states, and we are committed to supporting structured programmes to ensure Sabah remains competitive at the highest level.”
