KENINGAU: A dozen teams took part in the first Keningau Newbee Cup Basketball Tournament.
President of the Sabah Basketball Association and Deputy President of the Malaysian Basketball Association, Phan Chee Yong, praised the Keningau Newbee Basketball Association which, although newly established, has shown impressive commitment and organisational capabilities in organising district-scale tournaments.
He said building a sports organisation usually takes time to strengthen the structure and management experience, but the enthusiasm and cooperation shown by the organisers prove that the basketball community in Keningau has great potential to continue to grow.
He hoped the tournament could be an annual event and subsequently develop into a competition that could represent Keningau and Sabah in the future.
The opening ceremony also brought together several figures who have long contributed to the development of basketball in Keningau, including former Keningau Basketball Association President Fabian Koh, current President Liew Wen Kae and Deputy President Tan Wan Meng.
Also present were Sabah Basketball Association Deputy President Ho Shin Yung and Tenom Anderson Basketball Association President Chu Cheong Xin.
