Guard held in Tawau for alleged sexual harassment 
The suspect is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with the intent to outrage modesty.
TAWAU: Police arrested a local male security guard suspected of committing sexual harassment against a female worker at a convenience store in Kampung Andrassy last weekend.

District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 26-year-old suspect was detained in front of a tyre shop along Jalan Apas at 1.30am on Thursday.

“The arrest was carried out by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) following information received based on a report lodged by the 20-year-old victim,” he said.

According to Jasmin, the incident occurred around 5pm when the suspect approached the victim, who was working at the cashier counter of the convenience store.

The man reportedly touched the female’s body without warning, causing the victim to push his hand away before lodging a police report.

“Police also seized a black shirt and a branded bag believed to have been used by the suspect while committing the offence,” he said.

The suspect is being investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force with the intent to outrage modesty.

A background check revealed that the guard has a previous criminal record involving an offence under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

“We urge the public, especially women working alone, to remain vigilant and to immediately report any criminal incidents, including harassment of any kind,” Jasmin said.
