No notification on Peter’s parole: Jauteh

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah police have yet to receive any official information regarding claims that Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) President Datuk Peter Anthony has been released on parole.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said matters related to parole fall under the jurisdiction of the Prisons Department, not the police.

“We have not received any official information from any party. No comment, as we have not received any official notice,” he said.

Asked whether the individual concerned is required to report to the police, he said, refering to a Daily Express report.

The former Sabah Infrastructure Minister, who is serving a three-year prison sentence at Kajang Prison after being convicted of falsifying documents related to maintenance and service contracts at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), was reportedly released on parole two weeks ago.

On May 26, 2022, Peter was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment and fined RM50,000 after the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court found him guilty of falsifying a letter from the office of the UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor by inserting false statements with the intent to deceive.

On March 4, 2025, the Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal against the conviction and sentence, and ordered him to begin serving the prison term on the same day.

He remained subject to the three-year sentence after the Court of Appeal rejected his review application against the conviction and sentence on Aug 20, 2025.

He won the Melalap state seat in the 2018 General Election and 2020 State Election under a Parti Warisan ticket.
