SOOK: The newly completed Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Trus Madi, located about 120km from Keningau town, is set to begin operations in January next year.
Ministry of Education (MOE) Deputy Secretary-General (Planning and Development) Datuk Wan Hashim Wan Rahim said the RM51 million project in Kampung Sinua, spanning 10.117 hectares, obtained its Certificate of Practical Completion on Nov 19.
He said the project, implemented by the MOE Development Branch, Development Division for the Sabah and Labuan Zone (Zone 7), was approved for construction in 2014.
“The Certificate of Practical Completion was issued on Nov 19, 2025. The project, which began in 2017, features a conducive and comfortable design that is expected to have a positive impact on students and teachers,” he said.
He said this in his speech at the SMK Trus Madi Building Handover Ceremony here, Thursday, which was also attended by Sabah Education Department Director Datuk Raisin Saidin.
SMK Trus Madi is equipped with complete and modern facilities, including an administration block, classroom block, laboratory block, multipurpose hall, canteen, male and female dormitories with a capacity of 200 students each, teacher quarters, a football field, surau and a complete utility system.
Wan Hashim said the construction of the new SMK Trus Madi provides indirect benefits to 832 students from six nearby primary schools, including 116 Year 6 students who will continue their studies at the secondary level.
“With more comfortable and spacious facilities, teachers can deliver lessons more effectively while students enjoy a conducive learning environment. It is an investment in the nation’s future and in education.
“The SMK Trus Madi development project is a major government investment. The current contract value stands at RM38,094,669, while the total cost of the project exceeds RM51 million, reflecting the Government’s commitment to ensuring access to quality education,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wan Hashim said of the total 389 dilapidated school reconstruction projects being implemented across Sabah, 236 have been completed, 64 are under construction, and 89 remain at the pre-construction stage.
“We expect all the projects to be completed within one to two years,” he said, adding that 776 schools in Sabah, with buildings classified at scale 7 and over 50 years old, were in need of special attention from the Ministry.
