Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s economy is expected to continue growing despite external pressures, including a global slowdown linked to prolonged conflicts in the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said this confidence is underpinned by the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 2.0 Development Plan, which will guide the state’s development agenda for the next five years.

The Chief Minister said this at the Investiture Ceremony in conjunction with the 75th Official Birthday Celebration of the Head of State at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Monday.

He said the direction, aligned with the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK13) from 2026 to 2030, would support continued growth despite global economic challenges.

Hajiji said the ongoing conflicts have affected global oil supplies and triggered an energy crisis, urging the public to practise prudence in spending, vehicle use and water consumption amid rising temperatures linked to the El Niño phenomenon.

He added that the State Government is exploring the Blue Economy under SMJ 2.0 as a strategic driver, with marine-based sectors expected to generate up to RM3.25 billion annually while strengthening cooperation with the Federal Government to ensure effective implementation of development projects.
