TAWAU: Six shop lots were destroyed while two others were saved in a pre-dawn fire at Kampung Kinabutan Kecil, Batu 4 Jalan Apas, here, around 4.40am on Wednesday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said the six affected lots, made mostly of wood, were about 80 per cent damaged.
He said the emergency call was received at 4.47am via the MERS999 line, and firefighters arrived at the scene nine minutes later.
The blaze was brought under control by 5.25am and fully extinguished by 6am, with no injuries reported, though a nearby Perodua Axia sustained about 10 per cent damage.
A total of 12 firefighters took part in the operation, assisted by two police personnel, as investigations continue to determine the cause and estimated losses.
