TAWAU: A house and a shop were destroyed in two separate fires in here within a 24-hour period, authorities reported.
The first fire occurred in a 10 x 20 feet non-permanent house at Kg Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4 Jalan Apas early Sunday morning.
According to Tawau Fire and Rescue Station Chief Jemishin Ujin, a team of 13 firefighters with four fire engines responded after receiving an emergency call via MERS 999 at 5.23 am.
“The team arrived seven minutes later and immediately began firefighting using one 100-feet hose stream and one pump from the fire truck tank.
“The fire was brought under control at 5.57 am, and the operation concluded at 6.17 am,” he said in a statement.
The second fire took place on Saturday evening, destroying a 30 x 40 feet shop near Pasar Sin Onn.
Jemishin said 14 firefighters were dispatched with four fire engines after receiving the call at 6.41 pm, reaching the site nine kilometres away.
“The fire was contained at 7.02 pm using water from the fire truck tank, and the operation was completed at 7.45 pm after ensuring there were no remaining hazards,” he said.
No casualties were reported in either incident.
