LABUAN: Six foreign nationals were arrested in a crackdown on illegal immigrants, here, on Monday.
A Labuan Immigration Department spokesman said the arrests were made during “Ops Sapu” at three housing areas between 12.10am and 2am.
The operation, based on public tip-offs and intelligence, involved 31 enforcement officers.
Checks on 21 individuals led to the detention of six Filipinos who failed to produce valid travel documents.
“All of them have been placed at the Labuan Immigration Depot for further investigations under the Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said, Tuesday.
During the same operation, the Immigration Department also issued two summonses to witnesses to assist in the investigation.
The department stressed that enforcement operations will continue to be carried out regularly to detect, detain and deport foreigners who violate the country’s laws.
Members of the public and employers are also reminded not to harbour or employ illegal immigrants, as strict action can be taken against them.
