LABUAN: Minister in the Prime MInister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh officially declared open the new block of pre-kindergarten early schooling (Taska) saying the facility showed the government’s all-inclusive education was available to all.
She said during the signing ceremony on the plaque at the block that “unity was not just a slogan but reflected in actions of our multi-cultural society and this augured well”.
She also announced a RM50,000 contribution to the child day-care to help in its smooth operations, The facility is managed by the Labuan Chinese Chamber of Commerce and shares the same compound with the long-established Chi Hwa Kindergarten.
Also present at the event were Deputy FT Minister Datuk Lo Su Fui, Member of Parliament Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman and others.
Chaiman of the Chamber Datuk Wong Kii Yii in thanking Hannah for appreciating the Chamber’s initiative to expand education to earlier years said the given amount would help in teething issues.
He also thanked the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu for the donation of RM10,000 to support the programmes of the chamber.
Wong said “Taska” classes were much needed in Labuan as they will ease the burden of working parents. He said, unlike kindergarten, enrolment into Taksa could begin from an early age, around three.
He also said that operating such an early education centre was costly due to the many aspects that needed attention, but assured that the chamber would strive to provide affordable education for all and, if necessary, subsidise the fees to assist families.
Wong also expressed his gratitude to the Education Department and other agencies for approving the licence for the “Taksa”.
