Kota Kinabalu: Keningau Member of Parliament and Tambunan Assemblyman Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan received his letter of appointment as Chairman of the Sabah Agricultural Marketing Authority (Sama), Friday. 

The presentation of the appointment letter was held during a brief ceremony at Wisma Pertanian, here. Jeffrey was the first to receive his appointment letter, followed by members of the agency’s Board of Directors.

State Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said the newly established agency under the Ministry will play a role in supporting the marketing and downstream sectors of agricultural, fisheries, livestock and food industry products for both domestic and export markets.

“The establishment of Sama is in line with the State Government’s efforts to strengthen Sabah’s agri-food industry, particularly in marketing and downstream product development,” he said.

He expressed confidence that Jeffrey’s leadership, together with the appointed board members, will be able to drive Sama towards achieving its goals in advancing the marketing of agricultural and food products in the State.

Sama is expected to become a catalyst for increasing the income of farmers, livestock breeders and fishermen in Sabah through more organised and competitive market access.
