Pan Borneo compensation: MP seeking best resolution
Mohd Kurniawan also said for cases involving residents who have received no compensation at all, he and the State Government are considering alternative forms of assistance, including goodwill payments.
KINABATANGAN: Kinabatangan Member of Parliament Datuk Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar called for a transparent and comprehensive approach to resolving complaints over low land compensation rates linked to the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway in the district.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Hari Raya 2026 celebration here, Mohd Kurniawan said he is currently in discussions with various stakeholders, including government agencies and consultants, to find the best resolution for affected residents.

He said that a town hall session will be held in the near future to provide clearer explanations to those impacted by the compensation dispute.

“Through this session, we want all parties to have accurate information and to understand the process that is currently underway,” he said.

On a separate but related matter, he raised the longstanding issue of Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement, describing it as an old matter that deserves to be treated as a priority.

While affirming his respect for the ongoing court process, he said he will remain consistent in championing Sabah’s rights in the interest of the State’s people.

Turning to tourism, Mohd Kurniawan voiced his support for efforts to elevate Kinabatangan into a world-class international tourism destination, citing the area’s rich biodiversity, its iconic river and its community-based tourism products as key strengths.

He also spoke about the achievement of the Batu Putih Tourism Cooperative, which has received recognition from the United Nations World Tourism Organisation as one of the best tourism villages in the world.
