KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno has reiterated that the state’s 40 percent tax revenue entitlement must be resolved without delay, despite ongoing court proceedings.
State chairman Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the claim, rooted in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), remains a fundamental right that cannot be sidelined, even as the legal process continues.

While respecting court procedures and the appeal process, he stressed that the entitlement must still be honoured.
The Court of Appeal recently allowed the Federal Government to stay the High Court’s decision pending a full appeal, which is tentatively set for October 27 to 30, 2026. An e-review on April 13 will confirm the hearing dates.
Jafry said the claim has broad backing from political parties, NGOs and the Sabah government, as it is crucial to accelerating the state’s infrastructure development.
He added that while Umno cannot direct branches to table the issue, it is likely to be raised and debated due to its importance.
