SANDAKAN: The State Local Government and Housing Ministry (KKTP) is strengthening enforcement safety measures following an incident in which an officer was assaulted in the district.
KKTP Assistant Minister Datuk Fairuz Renddan said the incident during Ramadan has raised concerns over personnel safety and highlighted the need for improvements in field operations.
He said the ministry is considering equipping enforcement officers with body cameras to enhance monitoring of both personnel and operational situations.
Fairuz also stressed the importance of integrated cooperation with agencies such as the Royal Malaysia Police, Customs Department and Immigration Department to improve enforcement effectiveness, while maintaining proper identification through uniforms and, where necessary, the use of plainclothes for special operations.
He added that the ministry is also reviewing the reactivation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems in high-risk areas, particularly markets, to deter crime and improve monitoring, and urged traders to continue providing feedback to authorities.
