Kota Kinabalu: The Kota Kinabalu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKCCCI) will continue to serve as a bridge between the business community and the government to promote state development, said its President Datuk Michael Lui Yen Sang.
Speaking at a Lunar New Year gathering held at Hakka Hall on Monday, in conjunction with the seventh day of the Lunar New Year, Renri, the “Day of Humankind,” he reaffirmed the chamber’s commitment to constructive cooperation.

“As we step into 2026, the global economy is evolving rapidly. In this era of opportunity and challenge, KKCCCI and the Sabah United Chinese Chambers of Commerce remain committed to strengthening ties with local and international business organisations as well as government agencies,” Michael said.
“We will continue to serve as a bridge, working hand in hand with the government to promote state development.”
He said the chamber would remain steadfast in addressing challenges faced by industry players, engaging in dialogue with the authorities, and contributing to Malaysia’s prosperity.
The chamber will also actively seek growth opportunities and showcase the strength of Chinese entrepreneurs.
“Our principle is ‘members first,’ and our objective is to unite business strength and serve the Chinese business community,” he said.
He also highlighted that the next three years would mark a significant milestone for the Sabah Chinese community with the construction of the Wisma Zhong Hua Building, which he described as more than just a physical structure.
“It will be a symbol of unity, a home for community activities, and a platform for trade and culture. Together, we will ensure its successful completion, leaving a lasting legacy for generations to come,” he said.
On education, he stressed that it remains a priority for the chamber.
“We often say, no matter how poor, education must not be neglected. This is not just a slogan, but a guiding principle passed down through generations. The chamber’s eight schools play a vital role in preserving and transmitting Chinese culture,” he said.
He further added that cultural heritage must be woven into daily life so that younger generations grow up immersed in Chinese traditions and values.
“Whether it is the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, or Mid-Autumn Festival, these are not merely calendar dates, but vital carriers of emotion and values. Just like tonight, as we celebrate Renri, we are reminded of the preciousness of reunion,” he said.
He added that as a Chinese association, the chamber has a responsibility to promote the traditions of Chinese culture and ensure that future generations remember their heritage.
Referring to the Year of the Horse, he said it symbolises vitality, progress and determination.
“Let us continue to support one another, maintain friendly and efficient interaction with the government, and jointly lead society toward greater progress and harmony,” Michael said, wishing the hundreds in attendance success, thriving businesses and family well-being in the New Year.
