SEMPORNA: Two men were arrested and diesel and petrol worth RM1,025.75 were seized during a joint enforcement operation on Sunday.
The integrated operation, known as “Op Taring Bravo 1”, took place around 2.40pm at a petrol station.
The operation was led by the intelligence branch and task force of Kunak 22nd Battalion General Operations Force (PGA), with assistance from the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) Semporna.
Based on intelligence, the team conducted an inspection of a black Toyota Hilux parked at the station.
The inspection revealed 13 white barrels containing diesel, four barrels containing petrol, and one empty barrel — none of which had valid permits or purchase documentation.
The fuel and vehicle were seized, and the two individuals in the vehicle were taken into custody for further investigation.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects admitted to purchasing the diesel and petrol beyond the permitted limit and without a valid permit.
They also stated that the fuel was intended for delivery to a resort located off the waters of Semporna.
The total seizure was valued at RM131,025.75, which included the fuel worth RM1,025.75 and the vehicle, which was estimated to be worth around RM130,000.
The case has been handed over to KPDN Semporna for further action under Section 20(1) of the Control of Supply Act 1961.
Kunak PGA emphasized that the operation reflected the continued cooperation among enforcement agencies in combating smuggling activities in the area.
