KIULU: A 16-year-old boy was found drowned after reportedly falling into a river at Kampung Rangalau Lama, along the Kiulu-Tamparuli Road, Sunday.
The incident occurred at around 4.30pm, and the victim was discovered by villagers before being confirmed dead by Tuaran Hospital.
Tuaran District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Kurong Ak Beki said an emergency call was received at 4.49pm, and three personnel were dispatched along with an Isuzu D-Max four-wheel-drive utility vehicle to the scene, located 25km away.
“According to initial reports, the victim fell into the river and did not resurface. His friend, who witnessed the incident, alerted members of the public nearby,” Kurong said.
Upon arrival, the team found that the victim had already been rescued by the public. He was transported to Tuaran Hospital, where he was confirmed deceased.
The rescue team then inspected the surrounding area for other hazards, concluding the operation at 6.30pm
