KIULU: A man who went missing while clearing a farm with a friend in Kampung Paka here three days ago has yet to be found as search efforts continue.
The victim, identified as Jantannius Poulus, 45, was reported missing on Tuesday at about 1.40pm, and rescue teams are still trying to locate him.
Tuaran Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) Chief Kurong Ak Beki said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.40 pm on Wednesday.
He said six personnel were deployed to the scene, located about 41 kilometres away, along with two utility vehicles involving the Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit and a Nissan Navara four-wheel-drive (4WD).
“The search and rescue (SAR) operation entered its third day today and began at 10.36 am, with firefighters assisted by the K9 detection dog unit,” he said.
The team had to trek about four kilometres on foot to the last location where the victim was believed to have gone missing before conducting a search in the area and along the Kiulu River.
Kurong said the complainant, who is the victim’s friend, informed authorities that Jantannius was last seen at 12.40 pm on the day of the incident, resting at a hut on the farm.
However, after they resumed clearing work, the victim did not return to the hut, prompting villagers to conduct a search before notifying authorities.
“The operation for today ended at 4.30 pm and will resume tomorrow morning. Any developments will be updated from time to time,” he said.
