KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan distributed 500 packs of Moroccan tomato soup, harira, to health workers and visitors at Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Thursday.
He said the initiative was organised by the ministry to show appreciation to healthcare workers who continue serving patients around the clock.
“We hope this programme will bring some cheer and ease their burden as they do not have to buy food for iftar because we have prepared it for them.
“Our health workers continue serving patients without stopping, whether it is Ramadan or not. We truly appreciate their commitment in providing the best service to those seeking treatment here,” he said.
Meanwhile, hospital director Datuk Dr Abd Kahar Abd Asis thanked the ministry for the contribution.
He said the hospital receives more than 2,000 outpatients and about 700 inpatients daily, bringing the total to nearly 3,000 patients excluding visitors.
The hospital has about 4,000 staff working in three shifts, with 1,000 to 1,500 personnel on duty each shift.
Abd Kahar added that as the largest among Sabah’s 24 hospitals, the facility needs additional buildings and wards to cope with rising patient numbers, while its 1,500 parking spaces remain insufficient.
