SIPITANG: A house and a car were destroyed in a fire at Kg Lumut, here, on Tuesday.
Sipitang Fire and Rescue Station Chief Calvin Joe Jeafery said the department received a distress call at 1.45pm.
“A team of six firefighters, together with a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) vehicle, was dispatched to the scene located about five kilometres from the station,” he said.
He said the team arrived at the location at 1.52pm.
“The fire involved a semi-permanent house measuring about 36x48 square feet, which was 90 per cent destroyed. A Hyundai car was also affected in the incident,” he said.
Firefighters carried out extinguishing operations using one hose line with a 300-foot water stream sourced from the fire engine tank and a nearby fire hydrant.
The fire was brought under control at about 2pm.
Calvin said no casualties were reported and the cause of the fire as well as the estimated losses are still under investigation.
