SANDAKAN: The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) remain ready to strengthen security control in the waters and eastern borders of Sabah.
Chief of Defence Force Datuk Malek Razak Sulaiman said the ATM has also been directed to intensify efforts to curb smuggling activities, including leakage of subsidised goods such as diesel in border areas.

He said enforcement efforts are being reinforced to ensure subsidised goods are fully enjoyed by local residents while preventing any leakages that could affect the economy and cost of living.
Malek said surveillance measures along border areas will continue to be strengthened to close any gaps for smuggling activities, adding that all enforcement agencies are also stepping up efforts to address the issue.
He said this when met by the media during a meet-and-greet session with ATM personnel in Sandakan on Sunday, adding that the visit formed part of his operational tour across Sabah’s east coast, while also emphasising continued attention to the welfare of veterans through assistance and second-career initiatives.
