Kota Kinabalu: Verified news, not speed, is what makes media effective in an era of information overload, according to Director of Media and Communications in the Chief Minister’s Department, Datuk Lucy Irene Yong.
“Verified reporting remains the cornerstone of credible journalism despite growing pressure on media practitioners to publish quickly,” she said at the Media Hari Raya Aidilfitri dinner reception hosted by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Saturday.

“In an era of information overload, effective media is media that disseminates verified news, thus serving as the main reference for the public in forming accurate facts.,” she said in her speech on behalf of the Chief Minister.
Additionally, Lucy said the media is an important link between the government and the public.
“Journalists carry a dual responsibility, disseminating government policies clearly to the people while channelling public concerns back to the authorities for action,” she said.
She said the Media and Communications Office would continue ensuring all news and reports relating to the State Government and the Chief Minister were shared promptly and accurately with media organisations for dissemination across their respective platforms.
