Kota Kinabalu: Sabah-born fried chicken brand Borenos received royal recognition when the Raja Puan Muda of Kedah, Che Puan Muda Zaheeda, chose the local brand for a special meal delivered to Malaysian neurosurgeon Dr Moventhiran Ramakrishnan.
The gesture was made after Che Puan Muda Zaheeda was inspired by Dr Moventhiran’s life story, which was highlighted in a recent news report.
Dr Moventhiran, who is now the Head of the Neurosurgery Unit at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah in Klang, rose from humble beginnings in Kuala Kedah. His father worked as a lorry driver while his mother supported the family by holding two jobs.
Despite financial challenges, he remained focused on his studies and eventually pursued a career in medicine.
In the report, Dr Moventhiran shared that fried chicken was a rare reward his parents would buy him whenever he came first in class during his school days.
The detail moved Che Puan Muda Zaheeda, who decided to arrange a surprise meal for him using Borenos, a homegrown fried chicken brand that originated in Sabah.
She said the brand was first introduced to her by the Tunku Mahkota Kedah and has since become a favourite within the royal household.
Che Puan Muda Zaheeda also requested that the Borenos team deliver the meal personally instead of sending it through a third-party delivery service in order to make the gesture more meaningful.
The surprise was intended to acknowledge Dr Moventhiran’s perseverance and achievements, while highlighting how determination and education can help individuals overcome challenges and achieve their dreams.
