Kota Kinabalu: A total of 61 orphans and underprivileged youth were treated to an iftar gathering organised by the Sabah Women’s Advisory Council (MPWS) at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
The gathering brought together children from several institutions, providing an opportunity for them to interact with community leaders while experiencing the spirit of togetherness during the month of Ramadan.
State Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Majungki said efforts to support orphans and vulnerable groups should not be limited to seasonal initiatives.
“We cannot only remember these children during certain months. They are part of our community and deserve consistent care, attention and opportunities to build a better future,” she said.
Julita noted that Sabah has various ongoing initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable groups, including orphans and those in need.
“I believe that in Sabah, this group is not left behind as there are many programmes currently being implemented to support them,” she said.

However, she stressed that there is still room to further strengthen and expand engagement programmes for children in need.
“Even with the existing initiatives, there is always room to enhance programmes that engage these children, including students in madrasahs, so that they continue to receive guidance, support and encouragement,” she added.
Also present were Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (Jhewa) Director Haslina Ismail and SICC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Dr Rosmawati Lasuki.
