SEMPORNA: Police arrested a Filipino man and seized 5.01 grammes of drugs believed to be Syabu following a raid at Kampung Bangau-Bangau, here, on Monday.
District Police Chief Supt Tan Hiap Wah said the 2.30am raid on an unnumbered house was conducted by a team from the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department of the Sabah Police Contingent in collaboration with the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division of Semporna Police Headquarters.
“Following the raid, the team arrested a 26-year-old Filipino man, and inspection found 5.01gm of drugs believed to be Syabu hidden inside a plastic bag, which is believed to belong to the suspect.
The suspect was taken to the Narcotic Crime Investigation office for further action, and the case will be investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
According to Tan, police also arrested two other men, aged 30 and 36, also Filipinos, after their urine tested positive for drug abuse. Both suspects tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine and will be remanded for further investigation before being charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Tan said that Semporna Police would continue to intensify operations to combat drug activities in the district and would not compromise with individuals involved in drugs, who will face stern action under the law.
In LAHAD DATU, two men and a woman were arrested for suspected drug offences following Op Tapis conducted at Kampung Sepagaya, Jalan Silam, on Monday.
District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said a team from the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division raided an unnumbered house in the village following information on drug abuse activities.
Following the 10.30am raid, the team discovered 0.08gm of drugs believed to be Syabu and a roll of aluminium foil believed to be used in drug abuse.
“All suspects, aged between 28 and 32, were taken to Lahad Datu Police Headquarters for further action. Urine tests conducted on all three suspects were positive for drug use.
The case will be investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.
Dzulbaharin added that the operation reflected Lahad Datu Police Headquarters’ continuous commitment to combating drug activities in the district.
