PENAMPANG: The sports track at Penampang Sports Complex requires immediate refurbishment, said Youth, Sports and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan.
During visits to sports complexes across Sabah, including Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Sandakan, and Tongod, he noted poor facility conditions and took action in Tongod by terminating a contractor and reopening the tender process.
For Penampang, officials have been instructed to prepare budgets for upgrades to benefit athletes and public users.
He said Sabah currently has 17 sports complexes, many needing attention.
He was met at a break fast on Tuesday organized by NGOs Pertubuhan Masyarakat Interaktif Suara Sabah (Misur) and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Cahaya Sabah at Wisma Kinsabina.
The iftar supported 66 underprivileged individuals, including persons with disabilities, children, and the elderly.
Nizam highlighted that such programs foster community unity and youth development, attracting many young participants.
Misur Chairman Dr Abdul Rashid Hassan said the event, now in its third year, carried the theme “Media Without Borders: Facts Cannot Be Separated,” highlighting the vital role of responsible and ethical media in today’s fast-moving digital era.
