SEMPORNA: Several houses and business premises were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Air here on Friday afternoon.
The Fire and Rescue Department received the call at 3.43pm and the first engine arrived at the scene about six minutes later.
The fire destroyed five non-permanent houses, a grocery shop, an eatery, a bundle shop and an ABIM Taski building that had not been operating since 2017, while another house was partially damaged.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control using two hose lines and water from fire engines and nearby hydrants, successfully preventing the flames from spreading to about 50 nearby houses, with no casualties reported.
