Kota Kinabalu: A 59-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here with committing mischief by damaging a car, causing losses amounting to RM6,480.
Izar Abd Manan pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Wan Farrah Farriza Wan Ghazali to committing mischief on Feb 25 at 5.16am at the car park of Ramin Apartment, Taman Putera Jaya, Telipok.
Izar allegedly damaged a Toyota Vios belonging to Mohd Neazuan Mohd Asri with intent to cause property damage. The offence, under Section 427 of the Penal Code, carries imprisonment of one to five years, a fine, or both, on conviction.
The court fixed May 5 for pre-trial case management and granted the accused bail of RM1,500 with two sureties.
In another case, 20 people were penalised for committing drug-related offences.
Twelve of them pleaded guilty to possessing dangerous drugs, while the rest admitted to self-administering dangerous drugs at separate locations here last year.
Fairus Surani, Md Mungkasir Ramli, Hung Chen Loong, Md Noor Daeng, Akim Edi, Welson Bilan, Ahmad Badiri, Hilmi Agal, Md Azlan Jamal, Roni Bilan, and Johan Abdul were convicted of possessing syabu weighing between 0.03 gm and 0.13 gm.
Johan was fined RM3,300 or nine months’ jail, Ahmad RM2,800 or nine months’ jail, while the others were jailed between eight and nine months.
Md Adam Jalson was fined RM3,300 or nine months’ jail for possessing 0.56 gm of MDMA and RM3,800 or nine months’ jail for possessing 6.39 gm of ketamine.
All were charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which carries a fine of up to RM100,000, up to five years’ jail, or both, on conviction.
Meanwhile, Mungkasir, Akim, Welson, Azrin Bayau, Amirudib Anuar, Norsyarif Nor, Ng Tek Seng, Tiong Min Hee, and Raycen Jutili were convicted of taking drugs.
Raycen was fined RM2,500 or eight months’ jail, while the rest received eight months’ jail each.
They were charged under Section 15(1) of the Dangerous Drug Act, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years’ jail on conviction.
