Kota Kinabalu: The implementation of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) must be resolved decisively before the next General Election to safeguard the rights of Sabah and Sarawak within the Federation, said Senator Datuk Bobbey Suan

He said after five years of repeated discussions in Parliament and the Dewan Negara, it was time for a final decision in line with the Federal Constitution and the call by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for matters related to regional rights to be resolved comprehensively and harmoniously.

Speaking during the debate on the Royal Address in the Dewan Negara on Thursday, Bobbey said MA63 was the foundation of Malaysia’s formation uniting Malaya, Sabah and Sarawak, and therefore the rights of the regions as enshrined in the Federal Constitution must be respected and implemented responsibly.
He said issues related to petroleum, although not specifically stated in the MA63 text, were closely linked to the framework of power and revenue distribution between the Federation and the regions.
Bobbey also urged stronger action against online fraud and cybercrime, while calling for clearer explanations from the Foreign Ministry on proposals to open foreign consulates in Sabah to avoid misunderstanding and negative perceptions,
