TAWAU: The Tawau Area Health Office issued 14 offence notices to Ramadan bazaar traders after inspecting 82 premises in the district as of the seventh day of Ramadan.
Area Health Officer Dr Shameer Khan Sulaiman said 60 personnel conducted inspections at several main bazaars, including Fujimart, Sabindo and the Bataras car park area.

He said offences detected included breaches of Regulation 32(1)(b) of the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 for failing to comply with food handler attire requirements, as well as Regulation 11(1)(b) for employing food handlers without food handling training certificates, and other hygiene-related lapses.
He said there are 20 Ramadan bazaar locations in Tawau and inspections will continue until the end of Ramadan to ensure satisfactory food hygiene standards, noting that compliance among traders has improved.
In a related development, he said one case involving Aedes mosquito larvae was brought to court following non-compliance with a compound notice, resulting in a RM3,500 fine, while 264 dengue cases have been recorded in Tawau with hotspots identified in Taman Mas, Taman Semarak and Kampung Titingan.
