Kota Kinabalu: Wisma Muis has received a new Fire Certificate following a RM15 million upgrading project carried out over five years on the 40-year-old building.
State Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Arifin Mohd Arif said the renovation aimed to improve visitor comfort and ensure compliance with fire safety standards set by the Fire and Rescue Department.
“With compliance to these standards, Wisma Muis has received a new Fire Certificate, the last one having been issued in 1990. As such, fire safety practices requiring continuous staff training remain critically important,” he said at the Fire Certificate handover ceremony held at Wisma Muis, Tuesday.
Among the works carried out were the replacement of 12 lifts, renewal of escalators, roof leak repairs, and other requirements stipulated by the Fire and Rescue Department.
“We will continue to ensure all conditions are met, including the provision of fire safety systems, equipment, and firefighting apparatus, even as the building reaches 40 years of age,” Arifin added.
Meanwhile, Sabah Fire and Rescue Director Mohd Pisar Aziz commended the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (Muis) for complying with building enforcement requirements under the Fire Certificate and ensuring all fire safety equipment was adequate and in good working order.
“We hope that this safety equipment and these systems are consistently monitored to ensure the building is capable of managing any fire risk or incident,” he said.
