TAWAU: Two new cemetery development projects in the district need to be expedited to meet current and future demands, while addressing the severe congestion at the Muslim Cemetery on Jalan Utara.

Assistant Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister, Datuk Rina Jainal said the two ongoing projects involve the development of Baradaya Cemetery in the Apas area and a cemetery in Merotai, which has been identified for development in the near future.

“The development of these cemeteries requires substantial allocation. However, last year we received excellent cooperation from people’s representatives around Tawau who jointly supported the Tawau Municipal Council’s efforts to develop these facilities,” she said.

She said this to the media after officiating the Kukusan 4.0 Prime Gotong-Royong at the Islamic Cemetery on Jalan Utara on Sunday, attended by nearly 600 people from 40 government agencies and non-governmental organisations.
