Kota Kinabalu: A total of 40 individuals were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court, here, Tuesday, for drugs.
The 40 were brought before Magistrates Marilyn Kelvin and Dzul Elmy Yunus.
Of these, 29 pleaded guilty to possession of syabu, while the remaining individuals admitted to taking drugs at separate locations in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang between October and December last year.
The 29 individuals found with syabu were identified as Amar Maruf, Irwan Muhamad, Nulhasan Abd Salleh, Md Shahrul Nizam, Mahadi Hassan, Hairil Afazil, Kee Hardyold, Raden Ajim, Azma Sarjan, Rizuan Florence, Mohd Jamri, Mackfadden Del, Tahir, Marizal Amin, Mohd Hamzah, Sulfarina Fidel, Wardi Ahmad, Jul Bari, Bibang Insilmani, Mohd Jul, Amirudin Anuar, Willam Ayau, Azrin Bayau, Nazri, Saldi Andi, Muhd Shah Rizal, Jepun Angkil, Suriyati Sairi, and Ardi Marthen. They were found in possession of syabu weighing between 0.02gm and 3.35gm.
Twenty-two of them received sentences ranging from six months to 10 months in prison, while the rest were fined between RM1,800 and RM2,800 or given jail terms between six months and 10 months.
They were charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, which allows for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years in prison, or both, on conviction.
Meanwhile, Mahadi Hassan, Bibang Insilmani, Saldi Andi, Rizuan Florence, Murpi Dulahid, Mohd Shukri, Omar Basir, Md Alif Mazlan, Abd Malik, Md Hishamudin, Lo Chin Min, Mohd Qasim, Mohd Rizal, Sunil Jilan, and Najib Ibrahim admitted to consuming syabu.
Twelve of them were sentenced to prison terms ranging from five to seven months, while the remaining individuals were fined between RM2,300 and RM2,500 or sentenced to jail terms of between seven and eight months.
Inspectors Yusdi Basri and Mohamad Hamidi Mohamad Hamzah led the prosecution.
