Kota Kinabalu: Papar Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCC) President Cheoh High Weal said there is a need for balance development between older townships and new areas in Papar and Kinarut.
Cheoh stressed that older commercial areas in Papar and Kinarut should not be allowed to decline due to rapid development in new townships.
He proposed revitalising old shoplots and traditional areas as tourism and heritage attractions by showcasing classical architecture, murals and local cultural elements – citing the recently upgraded Kong Hock Temple with its new entrance archway, which received RM50,000 in funding facilitated by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
Newer townships, he suggested, could focus on entertainment, modern lifestyle offerings and trends for younger generations.
