Raya gathering keeps traditions of Dumpas alive

TELUPID: In the mid-morning of the fourth day of Raya, Kampung Perancangan villagers begin arriving one by one, each carrying a talam filled with food prepared at home.

Some come with savoury dishes, others with traditional kuih. The trays are carefully arranged, not for display, but to be shared.

In this village, some two hours from Sandakan town, there are no separate open houses.

Instead, the entire community gathers in one place, laying out their food side by side before sitting down together as one village.
